Stability comparison of two absolute gravimeters: optical versus atomic interferometers
نویسندگان
چکیده
We report the direct comparison between the stabilities of two mobile absolute gravimeters of different technology: the LNE-SYRTE Cold Atom Gravimeter and FG5X#216 of the Université du Luxembourg. These instruments rely on two different principles of operation: atomic and optical interferometry. The comparison took place in the Walferdange Underground Laboratory for Geodynamics in Luxembourg, at the beginning of the last International Comparison of Absolute Gravimeters, ICAG-2013. We analyse a 2h10 duration common measurement, and find that the CAG shows better immunity with respect to changes in the level of vibration noise, as well as a slightly better short term stability. ha l-0 10 05 33 1, v er si on 1 19 J un 2 01 4 Stability comparison of two absolute gravimeters: optical versus atomic interferometers 2

متن کاملThe effect of wavefront aberrations in atom interferometry
Wavefront aberrations are one of the largest uncertainty factors in present atom interferometers. We present a detailed numerical and experimental analysis of this effect based on measured aberrations from optical windows. By placing windows into the Raman beam path of our atomic gravimeter, we verify for the first time the induced bias in very good agreement with theory. Our method can be used...
متن کاملAtom Interferometry for Absolute Measurements of Local Gravity
Atom interferometers have demonstrated high sensitivities in measurements of accelerations, rotations and different physical constants. In this article, we present the mobile instrument GAIN (Gravimetric Atom Interferometer) which allows to utilize this potential for high precision on-site measurements of the local gravitational acceleration. Important influences and systematics arising from bo...
متن کاملMacroscopic superpositions and gravimetry with quantum magnetomechanics
Precision measurements of gravity can provide tests of fundamental physics and are of broad practical interest for metrology. We propose a scheme for absolute gravimetry using a quantum magnetomechanical system consisting of a magnetically trapped superconducting resonator whose motion is controlled and measured by a nearby RF-SQUID or flux qubit. By driving the mechanical massive resonator to ...
متن کاملMathematical framework for simulation of quantum fields in complex interferometers using the two-photon formalism
We present a mathematical framework for simulation of optical fields in complex gravitational-wave interferometers. The simulation framework uses the two-photon formalism for optical fields and includes radiation pressure effects, an important addition required for simulating signal and noise fields in next-generation interferometers with high circulating power. We present a comparison of resul...
